The Olive Branch (in Clipsham) comes a close second on our list for a romantic meal. Hambleton Hall is a timeless classic – elegant, refined, and undeniably one of the finest places in the UK for a romantic meal. Set above the shores of Rutland Water, it offers the perfect pre-dinner walk with stunning lake views. Inside, Michelin-starred chef Aaron Patterson creates flawless seasonal dishes using the best local produce, all paired with expert wine choices from sommelier Dominique.
With over 40 years of culinary excellence and the UK’s longest-held Michelin star, dining here is a true experience. From the immaculate service to the serene surroundings, Hambleton Hall is ideal for marking a special occasion with real class.

4. A Jewel of a Dining Experience: Sarpech
Named after the ornate turban ornament once worn by Indian royalty, Sarpech lives up to its name – offering a dining experience that feels both regal and refined. This isn’t your typical curry house; it’s a carefully curated journey through India’s rich culinary heritage, delivered with elegance and depth.
The setting is sophisticated, the service polished, and the food – crafted from fresh, high-quality ingredients, is bursting with flavour and finesse. Each dish reflects the opulence and artistry of traditional Indian cuisine, making Sarpech (in Oakham) a perfect choice when you’re after something memorable and full of character.
- Highs: Elegant, flavour-packed dishes with flair. Sophisticated surroundings and polished service
- Lows: Not for those craving classic curry house favourites. Some dishes might feel a bit rich or complex for simple palates.
5. Mediterranean Charm in the Heart of Uppingham: No.23
Rounding out our top five is No.23, a stylish new addition to Uppingham’s dining scene. Set in a beautifully restored 300-year-old building, it offers a relaxed yet refined atmosphere with a Mediterranean-inspired menu, elegant cocktails, and a thoughtful wine list. It’s a great spot for a cosy evening with a touch of sunshine charm.
What sets No.23 apart is its strong local focus – meat from their own farm in Great Easton and produce from nearby suppliers ensure the menu stays fresh, seasonal, and rooted in quality. It’s a lovely choice for those who appreciate good food in beautiful surroundings, right in the heart of Rutland’s most vibrant market town in Uppingham.
- Highs: Thoughtfully sourced ingredients, full of flavour. Stylish yet relaxed setting.
